| Jasmine Sound was founded in 1987 as the personal recording studio of producer John Andrew Schreiner. At that time the studio was located in the downstairs of his Laguna Beach home. This beautiful house, which looked out on the Pacific ocean, also had a fragrant aroma from night blooming jasmine. All sorts of music was recorded at Jasmine Sound in those days. Highlights include tracks for Aretha Franklin for a movie sountrack, Stephanie Mills, Paula Abdul, Lauren Christy, as well as Christian recordings for Fernando Ortega, Crystal Lewis, Bryan Duncan, and Maranatha Music.
In 1997 John and his wife Cathy moved to a larger house in Laguna Beach. Months later, their daughter Audrey was born. Within a year it became obvious that the studio would have to be separate from the house.
Eric Slaughter, who had worked with John engineering various projects, was enlisted to design a new facility from scratch. In 2001 a suitable space was found in San Clemente and the construction process began. In the meantime, albums by Fernando Ortega (Storm), and Marie Barnett (The Air I Breathe) were recorded and mixed in the temporary location of the front offices. Jim Quarles Pro Audio was hired to design speakers and provide acoustic treatments to ensure the Control Room translated well to the outside world. Finally the studio opened in January of 2002.
